Personally I would like to see this changed. 150 feet is quite restrictive, especially when ice fishing with tipups.

I do think you should be 'near' your lines, dont get me wrong, but (especially when ice fishing), I think this could be increased to 100 yards without any major negative consequences.

Agree, however I dont think you would have to worry to much about it anyways.

i agree to, and yes i know 3 different guys that have been writen up for that reason. it was either that or the other guy fishing with them were gonna get written up for to many lines. it was the lesser of evils.

Just curious, why would you want to fish 100 yards away from your tip ups, or any poles for that matter??

I would pay money to see people run down tipups 100 yards away on the type of ice we have right now!

I disagree and here is why.  Let's say there is a small drop-off that the fish are biting on and somebody puts out 4 tip-ups, 100 yards in each direction from the middle and claims that area as "Theirs".   That would cover up to 200 square yards of lake and very well may cover the entire spot.  If I want to fish that hump I'd have to be right in their spread.  We all know how popular "Ice Pirates" are and extending the distance to fishing lines would more than likely cause even more problems.  The current law states 50 feet between fishermen and the 150 foot distance from lines already creates a mess in some of the community spots.

This is very true. It would cause alot of problems. Even when ice fishing.

To me this law was passed and needed back when the bulk of fishing done was from the shore. I have never had a warden on the ice ever look at the distance I was from a tip up or line. Many times we will sit on the shore in the truck for shelter and have our lines out in front. Well more than 150' from us.

If license and number of lines and limits are good to go, it becomes a non issue.

Me too I would laugh my ass watching someone run 100yards and pull a dead line every time.

maybe I read this a little different but 150 feet is a 150 feet. So if you spread them out 150 feet in both directions you would be 300 feet from your farthest pole when checking a pole one either end of your  set up.

You couldnt set up 100 yards in any direction and claim that area as 'yours' just like you cant do it 150 feet in any direction and do it now. 

From the regs "Fishing holes outside a fish house may be placed no closer than 10 feet from the house without consent of the fish house occupant." and "Fish houses may be placed no closer than 50 feet in any direction from another fish house, without consent of the other fish house occupant".

SO, you can fish within 10 feet of another persons ice house now, and set up a house just 50 feet away from someone elses house. So changing this from 150 feet to 100 yards wouldnt have any affect on how close you can fish to someone else. It would just allow you to be farther from your poles without having an overly zealous warden write you up for it.

I also have sat in my vehicle on shore when I have had poles out on the ice. I know, with the current rules when someone does that they are a criminal, thats why I think this rule should be rewritten, even if just for ice fishing.

Just because the ice is slippery now, doesnt mean it always is. And, especially when pike fishing, there is often no rush to get to your line. Sometimes when I get a flag up, I wait for several minutes before even heading that direction, depending what Im doing at the time.

Really, 220 is correct, right now you cant set up poles more than 75 feet away from where your ice house is, if you set rods in both directions, because when you are checking your farthest rod, you would be too far from your other rods.

Yea I guess there is a few different ways of going about this, in my personal experience spending most of my time fishing west sak a guy could be fishing walleye/sauger in 30+ fow and have a pike line in 7 feet, which I do most of the time and that distance is in many cases is probably over 150. I have never been checked for it but I would hope there is some room for discretion there since the lines are being paid attention to. Or maybe just be like Montana and leave the tip ups out as long as they are checked sometime within 24 hours.
