Walleye FIshing Hooks - what is your favorite? What is the best?

I have had much luck with no breaks and a couple bent hooks. I use size 4 or 6. The triple barbs lock on for very few lost fish

Gammakatsu Red Octopus #6. razor sharp, never had one break, and only straightened one in my lifetime. Excellent hooksets, very few shake outs.

I am pretty much in line with permo except I think the mustads are much stronger than all of the hooks mentioned.  At least, from my expierence.  I don't think anything matches the sharpness of the gama, however.

VMC does impress me with the treble hooks.  Definitely makes a difference with cranking.  I have, however, gone to the mustad triple grips.  Not sure why, I think it was just what was available at the time and I knew they worked.

Now for spinner rigs, I went with the mustad because I suspect having some hangups in the new vegetation and rocks, sandstone, etc that the high water has put back into play.  As permo said, gamas (my go to hook) have shown signs of bending (happens when I really torque on the hook getting the hook out of a fish's mouth).  Mustads are tough knock hooks and they do seem to keep fish latched on.  This will be my first year with mostly mustad hooks on my spinners.  We'll see how it goes.  If I feel like I'm losing bites I will retie them all back to gama.

Nothing other than a gama will be on my lindy rigs, however.  I don't fish much with circle hooks anymore.

Oh pike fishing!  Nothing but the mustad hooks.  Need heavy duty hooks.  Although, I do not mind the wide gap treble by VMC.  Actually have been using them a lot lately (well during pike time).

I agree the gama hooks are the sharpest out of the box.  However, I have had trouble with the hook point bending after the slightest snag.  I think the point, while very sharp, is honed very thin and is prone to bending more easily than say a cone shaped tip which will be produce a stronger hook point.

I got frustrated, throwing harnesses due to a bent tip on the gama hooks and have since switched to either VMC or Owner hooks. 

Anyone else noticed this??

No, I haven't noticed this. In fact I have noticed quite the opposite. No matter how many trees I pull that hook out of, and how much pressure is used to free a snag, the business end of the hook is good to go. 

May I ask what style and size of gamakatsu hook you are experiencing this with?

Gama octopus #4 and #6's on my lindys and harnesses.  I am not talking about 90 degree bends at the barb but just enough at the point to not feel tacky on your finger nail or noticing it takes a little extra to get it through the sucker on a leech.  When I notice this I will look and sure enough there will be a bend at the very tip. 

Tried the Ultra points worm design this past week for the first time! I have been using Gamas prior to this. What I did see is that we had much better hook-ups with the Ultra in that they stay in! They stayed sharp when pulled into trees and junk and never straighened out at all.

The Gamas for some reason did, which is not the norm.

I just hate tying up the Ultra with the offset, my fingers are to clumsy!

I use Gama #4 in about 8 differant colors and   have had great luck. Never have bent one unless its comming out of a snag. Only bad thing is when you get the non metallic painted ones and you tie a lindy together you cant get both pieces of line through the eye. thats the only bad thing but they are super sharp

i use the VMC snell hooks because they are cheap and you can buy about 500 to 100 of the gamakatsu's. sharp enough for the the fish i catch.

I started using mustads slow death hooks this year I really like them and have not had any problem as far as bending or breaking not the sharpest hooks out there but will do.

all I know is we get ours from Scheels & I prefer the glow-hook, just plain.
