Pretty sure this was fall of '86, and I know the 1st out of state trip dad took me along for.  Dad always figured a few hooky days were OK as long as he supervised.  (grin)

Nice deer.  What kind of car is that?

85-86ish Oldmobile Cutlass Sierra.  Dad's company car at the time.  In fact, that was the last "car" he was ever provided, it was SUV's and Mini-Vans after that one.

Cool photo.  Just curious.   Do you remember what kind of boots you wore on that trip and if your feet got cold and wet?

No clue what kind of boots.  Doubt they were cold, that's the only day it snowed that week, it was brown otherwise and pretty warm, we drug that buck almost 2mi, nothing was cold.  Probably weren't wet either, dad had mink oil and wasn't afraid to make me use it, lots of it.

I'm pretty sure I'll spend the rest of my life trying to duplicate the excitement one felt while hunting at that age.

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

j.k., that is qute the hind quarters on your avatar.  I think Mr. Gutshot is referring to the lack of quality boots back in the day, when cold wet feet were merely an inevitable inconvenience for a youngster out hunting.

Those are what memories or all about, I remember all cheap, crappy clothes and boots etc... we wore and never complained. Now look at the clothes we buy to hunt. Life has changed in 40 years. God hunting was the best than and will never be same!

Happy New Year to everybody.

I'm afraid you're chasing unicorns. Almost everyone spends their entire life trying to experience the nostalgia of childhood memories. It's not quite ever the same though.
