I had a buddy in his 60's stand up in church last weekend and ask the congregation if there was anyone willing to travel 80 miles to Minot to help a flood victim demolish his home and two young men stood up.  They showed up about 3:30 PM and left around 6:30 PM.  I am so appreciative even if it is just for a few hours.  Then I get a call from Tim Sandstrom and an offer of a few hours from him and he showed up and helped rip out sheetrock for a few hours.  I am very happy with the help.  Not many are willing to put in the time after work during the week let alone on the weekend when we are to be at the lake reeling in walleye.  I truely understand...

I have two houses to strip to the bone.  One small house and a large house.  I have the main floor of the small one 98 % sheetrock free.  It still needs the hardwood floors to be ripped out, the siding has to come off, and the basement has to be gutted.  This house is about 800 square feet.  Small.  My family's home is about 2900 square feet on the main floor, and has not even been touched yet.  A long long road road ahead of us...my inlaws are flying in from out of state to help for two weeks, but even with their help it is a monumental task.

My goal is to have the small house gutted, dried and disinfected by the end of August. I need to hurry so that we can start rebuilding it this fall... so my wife and two kids will have a place to live this winter.  The big house will have to sit vacant this winter as we just don't have the resources to rebuild it right now, and the city has not decided what to do with us just quite yet.  I was informed that it must be gutted and disinfected/cleaned before winter because of public health concerns...even if it is to be demolished.

If there is anyone in the Minot area that is willing to help with clean up I would appreciate it immensely.  I have been at it everyday chipping away at the iceberg.  My dream is to have one person per room using a claw hammer and a wheel barrow!  It would not take long at all.  I see these huge cleaning crews getting it done in under two days...what a relief it must be for those home owners.  I got an estimate from a major cleanup company and it was around $25,000...I just simply cannot afford that...so here  I am...riding the iceberg...anyone care to join me?  :)   give me a call at (701) 833-3595 and I can use your help even when it is most conveinient for you.  I am working on it all day everyday unless I am teaching my DUI Seminar from 6-10 PM every other week.  I was told that I need to ask for help...ask and you shall recieve as they say...

Again, thanks to the guys from Tioga, and thanks to Tim Sandstrom for this week and the coming days!

Thank you very much for the offer.  I will return your call tomorrow and see what we can arrange!  Tomorrow morning my wife and I will be at our family home salvaging stuff like lawn chairs and such with a pressure washer, buckets of soap and water, bleach solution and sunshine. Later tomorrow afternoon I will be in the small house with the saws-all trying to quarter the tub and finish off the sheetrock.

Thanks for the help Bowhunter 1527!  Every little bit helps!  On the agenda for the weekend:  ripping out hardwood floors!  Not an easy job...it requires some muscles!  Anyone interested in getting a workout call the number I posted before.  Thanks!

Thanks Hntduks!  I wll be waiting for your call.  I will have to buy another wrecking bar or two.  I appreciate the help for however long you can...3 hours, all day, several days...anything helps.  My time is limited to take advantage of the free debrise disposal.  After that I have to rent dumpsters at $500 a pop.  They can add up quick!

WOW!!  That is all I can say.  It is going to be a long haul for the people of Minot.  Put in some hours today and we did get quite a bit done and Stitzo was very appreciative.  If anyone has some time to help out anyone in Minot, Please do so, they all need it.  It will be very crucial to get alot of things done before winter sets in and we all know how fast that can creep up on us.

Holy Crap!  My father-in-law worked me to the bone!  My in laws flew up here 15 days ago to help us with our homelessness problem and the monumental task of gutting two homes.  He has given us incredible guidance about our current price gouging (home prices) situation and has pointed us in the best possible destination when it comes to getting our lives back to "normal."  Whatever normal is...I forget...Currently my children sleep on the floor.  Our life is so far away from normal that we might as well keep heading in the opposite direction and go around the other side of the world to get back to where we were.  That is what it feels like.  A never ending road trip.  I can only imagine what the pioneers went through in their covered wagons.  That right there would be so incredibly difficult and much much harder to do than what I am trying to accomplish!

One house is completely gutted and sanitized awaiting the rebuild once it is dry.  The other house is 4 times the size and we are only about 1/3 finished.  My in-laws just flew back home this morning, and I am so grateful for their help over the past two weeks.  Their physical labor put me one month into the future.

I have been so busy that I did not even have the energy left to turn on the computer at the end of the day.  The places we have been staying have not had internet either.

I also cannot thank  Bowhunter and Skeeter enough for their help.  They were ripping out that hardwood floor like it was a layer of I took a photo of them standing in my gutted house and promised to put it on here but it ended up getting deleted. :(  But I do have the LG cell phone video of them working on my hardwood floor!  I am trying to get it on here but having trouble.  Sorry guys I will keep trying.

I also need to thank Jill, Sara and their friend whose name escapes me for their help pulling nails and ripping out sheetrock.  Sara in particular has been showing up pretty regularly like 5+ days.  They probably don't view FBO but they are getting thanked on here anyway.

A week ago Saturday we had a religious group of 17 guys from Alberta, Canada ranging in age from 10 to 70 helping us from 2 PM to 4:30 PM They removed ALL of the household contents from our basement and placed it on the curb for us.  There were three rooms of storage "stuff" covered in sewage.  They were black from head to toe when it was all done.  And they were smiling while they were doing it!  I couldn't believe it when they rolled up to my driveway and offered their help for the afternoon.  I actually had to walk around the corner and wipe the tears out of my eyes.  Somebody upstairs must be looking after me.

I finally have the basement cleaned up, dry and ready to be gutted.  The main floor is close to being done outside of pulling nails, ripping out the sub-floor, the bathroom fixtures and the sanitizing.

Still a LONG way to go. I am taking Sunday morning off and will do a bit this afternoon in terms of clean-up and storage.

I will still need help.  I may be able to do it by myself if I keep at it day after day up until freeze up.  It kicks my a$$ everyday, but I keep getting out of bed and dragging my butt over there.  People are getting tired of hearing me ask for help, but I have no choice.

Playing the pitty card is hard to do as a North Dakotan.  I am proud and strong but this is beyond me. I am so sick of working on that house I could puke at the sight of it on certain days.  Call me if you have some time to donate this week.  833-3595

Shane, I am gald you are getting some help.   I think of the situation that alot of you people are in and I really can't imagine myself getting up every day and do what you people are doing.  I completely understand everything you are saying, especially after helping for just that one day.  Your in-laws were some great people for coming up and spending that much of their time to help.  I will try to get back on a weekend, but right now things have been pretty busy.  Most likely on a Sunday if I do make it.  Get a hold of me somehow when you are ready to start on the finishing of the one we were working on and maybe I can bring a few with me.  Take care and keep on keeping on!!!!!!  You will get through it!!!
