Photo Description:
This is rod I finished a few weeks back for Lake Winnipeg Greenbacks.  It is a 32 inch Thorne Brothers medium heavy walleye blank.  The handle is 8 inches long and the eyelets are Fuji Alconite guides.  I've played with a few different types of eyelets and Alconite seems to be the most ice-up free.  I have tried black and dark green thread before and it can be hard to see the rod as the sun sets.  The orange thread should be easier to see in low light conditions.  The lure on the end is a Live Target Gizzard shad and the reel is a Quantum PTI.  I caught a few walleyes on Lake of the woods with it last week and I really like it.  I can't wait to try it Lake Winnipeg!

I got one just like that on order now from Gillgetter.  I am going with black recoil guides with gold wraps(to match a pflueger supreme xt) and a different handle.  This shouldn't break like that POS St. Croix.

Your rod is what got me to post this one.  You should have a pretty good rod when Gillgetter fishes it.  I hope mine catches me a new pickup this weekend at the Fireman's Derby.

Yeah, the waiting is the hardest part.  Have you been sleeping with that rod on your bed?  J/K lol.  I am not sure if we will fish the derby or not.  Good luck.

I love my st croix med heavy 36 inch models. They worked great on the sumos last year at lake winnipeg. Paired up with pflueger patriarchs

If yours broke setting the hook i assume the drag was set pretty tight also?

No, I was running it real light.  It was brand new and I had caught a nice eater right before and a couple pike the day before.  Just couldn't handle a sumo in shallow water.

I feel your pain Ahab. A couple years ago up on LOW I broke 2 scheels rods on the first morning of a weekend trip. They both broke right above the handle, 30 minutes apart while setting the hook on 14" eyes. I think every person on the lake heard my temper tantrum!
Where's my bobber?
