Ariens 824.

When the drive is engaged, it won't push  the blower.  However, if you lift up the tires (lift the rear end) the tires rotate.  Put it back down and it won't move a bit.  Almost like the snow blower is two heavy.  It worked at one time but now NOTHING.

Pain in the butt push the blower with no drive shaft help.

Any thoughts?

I have had this same problem on a JD.  Either you  have snow coming in the drive off the motor.   Usually it has a plastic cover here and the gasket is bad.  Or you have gear problems,  take the bottom cover off the machine between the tires, you will find some gears.  More than likely you have a gear that is like a rubber wheel and the rubber is wore, missing, wet.  This should give you some ideas to start with and nothing here is to difficult.

This happened to my snowblower (MTD) last year.  My drive spring broke.  I got a replacement and it worked for half the driveway and broke again.  Decided it wasn't worth spending $10 and a bunch of time on springs each time for the whole driveway and tried a zip-tie,  Cheap fix and it has worked great ever since!

The drive on 90% of snow blowers are a vertical rubber wheel that spins on a horizontal steel disk. you get different gears (speed change) by moveing the rubber wheel in and out on the steel disk. You can sometimes get by cleaning them with brake clean or carb spray, but if it is a few years old the rubber needs to be changed. pretty simple job

Riverview has it pretty much right! They can get out of alignment but most time it is a result of them being worn out! I finally replaced mine last year on a 20 year old machine. Brother had to replace his as well late in the season on a 10 year old machine!

Some do have a linkage adjustment depending on models but unless you have a hydro or a gear box driven unit, it most likely is the drive head!

In my lifetime I have seen fence row to fence row farming and the return of CRP and game to the landscape. Now we face again the prosepect of fence row to fence row again! Sportsman are our own worst enemy in that we fail to look forward and focus to much on the now!
