I'll second what Simmsj is saying by spending the extra money on some good holders. When I bought my boat I used the rod holders that were already on it. They were the cheaper variety and didn't think much of it until this spring when I spun around on a swivel seat to grab something, in the process I heard something break and heard a splash. For starters the rod holder was mounted in a stupid spot, behind the driver seat so when you have a rod in there if you ain't facing forward the butt of the rod hits the back of the seat. Anyway the neck of the rod holder broke with very little pressure sending the rod and holder to the bottom of Brush Lake. Luckily it was only 7 ft deep and snagged the line with a deep crank. So I put some Scotty holders on it. You'd have to put some serious pressure on a Scotty to break it.

re: slyvan 185

posted by: Pro V1. ramrods are the deal!

re: slyvan 185

posted by: simmsjs.
I have a glass boat and mine is mounted thru the hull and I have never had a problem with it never reading. It doesn't matter if I am on plane running 50 or anchered, it always reads and always shows fish of they are present. As far as rod holders go, I have the Scotty rod holders and I love them. Easy to move, easy to get your rods out of when you need to get one out in a hurry. I was going to think there isn't any or much difference between them. Then I thought about my last boat when I picked some up from the Walmart. Those broke easy and would come apart. I would definately spen the extra $13 and get a good product.

re: slyvan 185

posted by: All4eyes. Rod holders are a personal preferance, as far as amounting the transducer I'm on the outside. ThruHull is mainly for a glass boat from what I understand.
