If so, that is scheduled for Jan. 9th & 10th at the Bismarck Civic Center

posted by: gst. Tim, no worries, I wasn't getting my shorts in a bunch. Actually reeeeeally wished our high school would have had wrestling back in the late 70's. Tried getting to go to a neighboring school for wrestling, but back then that wasn't possible, and I doubt the folks would have done the 90 mile round trip for practices.

posted by: Jiffy. Oh I hear you. I'm going to toot my own horn a little here but I ALWAYS got the take down. 99.99% of the time, with everbody I wrestled I always got the take down. Not with him! He took me down, let me up, took me down, let me up, took me down.......yeah it was an embarrassment.

Once I was on the mat I was mediocre at best. I did get better but I was never a state class wrestler. Tried hard to be but I just didn't have "it".

posted by: Tim Sandstrom. Ha ha, yeah I remember them. A guy from New Town always had battles with one of them. Everyone thinks getting pinned is the embarrassing loss. I disagree, you can get caught in a throw or bad move and get beat at anytime with a pin. The worst way to lose is getting technical falled. I remember wrestling Jeff Murtaugh (spelling). Yeah, it wasn't pretty.

Does anyone remember the Pazdernik boys from New Salem, circa 1990? They wrestled the lower weights, 112-130. I had the misfortune of squaring off with one of them (don't remember which one) down at a tourney in Britton SD. I have never been toyed with so much as I was in that match. That guy flat out kicked my butt. Big time!! Wow was he good, the best guy I ever wrestled. Although Randy Volk from Lisbon was pretty damn good too. So was Roddy Gentzkow from LaMoure, Scott German from Oakes, kid from Linton (his name escapes me), Jared Coon from Edgeley was pretty good too.....I battled those guys all the way through high school.

Hettinger, Watford City, some New Town and Stanley kids, Minot Ryan, New Salem in the old days, Center had some good ones (they are now combined with New Salem and Center), and there are some others. Oakes climbed back to the top but they had some off years for some reason. Kids coming out for wrestling I imagine. I remember the days Rugby and Carrington were power houses but they fizzled with time. I'm actually out of the loop. I didn't pay attention at all last year. One of those things where you get out of the scene and don't keep up with it. I need some cousins or buddy's kids or something to follow! Last time I followed wrestling was with my cousin who wrestled for Minot High.

Just need solocam to get his bow into wrestling...hee, hee!

I'd still take the Oakes, LaMoure, Ellendale, Napoleon area wrestlers over any in the state. There is something in the water down there.
