Seems a shame he did so much work right next door in MN, I grew up in ND with family in agriculture and haven't heard of him until today.

re: Death of the greatest human that ever lived?

posted by: svnmag. I wish he could've tackled the "flavorless grocery store tomato in winter" crisis.

re: Death of the greatest human that ever lived?

posted by: Allen. Whew, I thought for sure I was going to be the only one around here to have heard of him.

He did some amazing work that went largely unrecognized by the masses.

We see parallels to his reasearch every day up here and don't even realize he started the whole thing. I am referring to the advancements in corn, soybean, edible bean, peas, etc, etc, that were not in ND 20-some years ago. Now we find productive corn in every corner of the state and that was just not possible a mere 25 years ago.

re: Death of the greatest human that ever lived?

posted by: TGL. Borlaug was a genius. While people were talking and arguing about the GMO thing he was quietly going about his business and developing different strains of wheat that were drought resistant and developed many other traits that have many far reaching effects on many of the crops we grow here in ND.

re: Death of the greatest human that ever lived?

posted by: bobkat. Interesting story, Clay. I've heard the name a few times but didn't know a thing about him. In fact though I really hate to admit it, a day or so ago when I heard his name on some news story I thought they were talking about the guy who chisled out Mt. Rushmore!
Definitely beats Micheal J!
