Well, here it is, the opener of the 2010 season tomorow night, i am excited for the season to start, but im not expecting much, i think 4 wins is wishful thinking, we have a very very young team, bad coaching and not a ton of talent, and no QB's to speak of, 2 or 3 wins is probably more realistic.

Wow!!!  At least you are consistent.  You are the same way about the Twins.  I'm glad people close to the NDSU football program don't share your low expectations.  You can't excell if you don't set the bar high.

Anything less than 7-4 is unacceptable.  The talent is there to get to that record.  If I had to bet, I'd choose 6-5.  Certain wins (Morgan State, USD, Indiana State, Missouri State).  Teams that are beatable (UNI, Western Illinois, Youngstown, Illinois State, SDSU).  Tough nuts where a win is not expected or likely (Kansas, SIU).

Win the gimme's and go 2-3 against the bubble teams and you get to 6-5.  BTW, 2 of the bubble games are at home and 3 are road games.

I think Bohl's job is on the line at 6-5.

?? are you smoking something? Next week vs UNI we are going to get hammered! HAMMERED! 6-5? haha, thats funny though. But yes your right, anything less than 7-4 is unacceptable, But hey we havent had an "acceptable record" since 2007! 3 years ! Yet Bohl is still here??? What a joke, hes gone after this year i hope, he has to be, unless they pull off the shocker of the century and go 8-3 or better.

Why the boner for UNI?  They lost their super duper QB and most of the rest of their offense.  Defense lost key players.  That was a team that we had on the ropes in the Fargodome.  They will be worse than last season and I expect us to be better.

The 2009 Bison were in EVERY game right to the end.  They found some creative ways to lose several games.

I think some of the teams to watch out for are the ones that nobody has worried about in the past (WIU, ISU red, MoSU) and not UNI.  I think 6-5 is very doable.  Not good enough to be called successful though.

Yeh, the more i look at the schedule you may be right, 6-5 might be do able, but like you say, that isnt good enough.

I really hope that this game is fairly respectable tomorrow night. As mentioned the Bison are a VERY young team but that can't be an excuse. Sure hope Bohl has these guys focused to play a full 4 quarters of football.

I am hoping to be hearing Scott Miller be saying "My Oh My" a few times about the positive performance of the Bison.

mhanson,
FYI, ISU (red) beat Central Missouri State on a late PAT 55-54 last night.  CMSU put up over 600 yards of offense on ISU.  CMSU is a DII school in the MIAA.  Same conference as UNO and Pitt State.  If that's any indication of how good ISU is, I'm moving them to the Certain Win category.

ISU has been hyped as one of the front runners in the conference this season.  Maybe because they beat UNI last season late.  That was when UNI was fading fast and going from a playoff spot to watching the playoffs.

Anything less than being in the playoff discussion every year is unacceptable. I like to start the season with high hopes at least, guess until last year us Bison fans and alums had been spoiled for a few years with the exception of a couple meltdowns. Will be interesting to see how the match up with the Jayhawks. GO BISON!

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

GAMEDAY!!!!!!!

NDSU should not win this game.  FCS schools only win about once in 80 tries against FBS schools and it is even worse against BCS conference programs.  There are a lot of Kansas players who were recruited following their Orange Bowl win and after some of the greatest football success in the history of the program.

Call me crazy but, I think the Bison have the talent to stick with them.  A win would be a huge upset but I have my fingers crossed.  The usual keys to the game apply.  You could say this for every football game.  In FCS vs FBS games it always comes down to:

1.  FCS teams need to run the ball effectively and control time of possession.
2.  FCS teams need to WIN the turnover battle.  Even is not good enough.

Bison strengths:
1. O Line averaging 310 pounds with experience.
2. Deep LB corp (but some past injury problems)
3. Deep RB roster with some exceptional speed.

Question marks / weaknesses:
1. QB?
2. D Backs?
3. Depth of D Line
4. Quality of D ends.
5. Kicking game???????????????
6. Coaching?

There's much more to add to this list but you should get the idea. This team is a bit of a mystery.

Very curious about how the QB play will go this year, on the upside will be hard to get much worse, line play is usually fairly solid, lets hope we dont even hafta notice the kicking game and i've never been a fan of the play calling.

I dont go around guessing cup sizes either I just know a nice rack when I see one.

Far,

I hate to say it but if you think the Herd can stick with Kansas I think you started hitting the booze a little early this morning....they are 29 point dogs and I expect Kansas to cover that with ease unless they don't play any starters in the 2nd half.....and you know I am not a Bison hater just facing facts

You might be right but it's not wrong to hope for the best.

I based my comment on the fact that KU beat Iowa state by a measly 5 points last season.  Iowa State is a game that NDSU screwed up badly and probably could have won.  I expect the 2010 Bison to be better.  I know that Kansas lost some very key players and have a new coach and a new defensive scheme.  If we're going to get them, the first game of the season is the best opportunity.

Did you see Youngstown State scared the crap out of Penn State for a half?

Either way, they better not get embarrassed like the Pink and Green boys did on Thursday night.

I just watched the first half.  I don't know what I was thinking.  NDSU is getting blown out 3-3 at the half.  They should have stayed in Fargo.

If I need some college football advice, I know who to ask.  29 point dogs????

Maybe the second half will be different but, the Bison have been far more physical.

Gave away 3 points with the INT but probably got them back on the field position after the DB ranit out to the 1.
