No more guaranteed outfitter tags in Montana. It sucks but they have to get that money from somewhere. The price jump is still not as ridiculous as their licensing system. I would gladly pay it if i knew i could hunt the unit i wanted, instead of waiting till August to find out i can't hunt the breaks.

They can kiss my you know what. I was building points but I don't need to hunt there that bad.
Over $1600 for me and my two sons to shoot three deer...forget it. I hope this move really bites them in the butt.

Do they offer just a nonresident archery deer tag without getting a combo license? I can't make heads or tails of their system.  And if you get an archery tag can you hunt either mule or whitetail deer with that tag?

You can get a deer tag or elk tag individually, or get the combo. The deer tag can be used for archery or rifle seasons, as long as the unit you want to hunt doesn't have special permit restrictions(not very many do for deer). The deer tag can also be used for mule deer or whitetail.

As a NR,  in order to get an "A" or any tag, you must apply for the NR Deer Combo ($542) or Landowner Sponsored.  Unless you want to apply for just a "B" tag which is antlerless.  You can't just purchase an "A" or Any Tag as a NR.  You then have to spend an additional $10 for the archery permit if you want to bowhunt.  Once you draw the "A" tag, you then can apply for the "special draws" if you don't want to hunt the general regions.

Here is the link for the license and fees associated:

My last Deer Combo tag cost me about that anyways by the time I drew it after 4 yrs of preference points.

I love it. Better odds of drawing now. But then again, I may just buy a couple B tags instead. I've got enough antlers.

And man, times must be really tough if you can't scratch together a couple hundred extra bucks this year. Cancel your cable TV, and you've got it paid for. Or is the outdoor channel a higher priority??

I say to hell with that pot o' gold.

I agree.....You'd be surprised how much a guy can save by buying a "Jug" of Crown Royal and drinking it at home compared to going out on the weekend!! All of us could find a way if it was really a priority.

Plus, from what I have saw on Sakakawea, there is no shortage of cash in this state with all the $35,000+ boats on the water.
