Denied, but not surprised with a 25% chance to draw the Deer Combo without a preference point!! It's about as bad as trying to draw ND muley now!!

Ya no go for me too. I didn't realize it was only a 25% first timer chance. So when I do draw and then apply for the special Fort Peck unit what are my chances there?

I'm not sure about the special draw but here are the bonus point breakdown from Eastman's for Deer Combo 2008:

0 points: 20%
1 point: 33%
2 points: 45%
3 points: 60%

Big Game Combo jumps to 50% even without a point.

MT's draw right now is screwed up big time IMO.  Big Game Combo for instance, the problem isn't drawing the tag, it's the special draws that screw a guy. You cannot put in on a party for those so if you and a buddy both draw the Combo tag, you more than likey will not both draw the special unit you want and be able to hunt together.  You more than likely will be hunting by yourself if you want a special unit.

I feel this has resulted in a huge influx of people just applying for the deer combo tag and made it a real tough draw. If I wanted to hunt muley's real bad, I'd just pay for the Big Game Combo for $643 and have a great chance to draw every year. Throw the elk portion in the garbage.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but that is how I interpret the issue they have going on now.

Aren't the special draws like nearly impossible gg? Or have you gotten the breaks with bow relatively easy?

They used to be unlimited. I looked at the stats from last year, and the odds of getting it as a non-res were still excellent. however, it looks like they dropped the # of permits by a couple hundred this year....which in essence comes directly out of the non-res pile. As far as I know.

I need to research it more. I'm not sure which has more priority non-res 1st choice or resident 2nd choice. MT licensing system is about as messy as a soup sandwich.

big game combo denied. what a way to start my day.

I was really lookin forward to taking the horses on a scouting trip this summer too!

I agree solocam. it is stupid that you cant party apply for the unit you want to hunt. last year my dad and i were on pins and needles waiting to see if we would even be able to hunt together.
