atleast that is what randy kreil says on his weekly video on the g&f website, says that in some units if you dont apply doe as first choice you might not get a deer license for that you unit.

I think everyone should apply for doe tags. Gives me a better shot at a buck tag.

Honestly, I would rather not hunt, lol.

Without a doubt, coming out into nature is one of the neatest things there is to do, but you also have to be careful. That’s why I always try to pack the heat — try to pack a gun. Just a little bit — pack some heat. Now this isn’t too — this isn’t much of a big boy, I don’t want to kill the animal, but I do want to warn it, and say “hey, I think you’re pretty neat, but I respect your distance.” There’s bears out here, there’s mountain cougars, and biting goats.

I just put in my tags on a 4 person party application for, whitetail buck tags.  The buck tags stayed the same and doe tags went up in this unit.  We should be golden. A high success rate at almost 100% first choice to boot.   Now the wait...  sigh.....

Yeah we used to do that too.  Everybody hunts or everybody goes fishing.   The group has broken up though so now it's an individual thing.  I kind of miss those days......

Have to use a different strategy out west.  Tags are hard to get so if you have family or a group of friends who are reliable we put in seperate (reliable as in they will come with, tag or not).  This way, you increase the chance that at least someone might be hunting a buck.  To me and dad, it doesn't matter who has the tag.  The other still considers it buck hunting because you tag along with the spotting scope, backpack and camera.  That's the days I live for.  Plus not so frantic to fill a party application.

My odds increased a bunch likewise because with matched points, if one drew a doe...all drew a doe.  Yeah, if you draw a buck you all get a buck but that percentage is low.  By going seperate, you double your draw odds (combining individual stats).  Shouldn't have shared that information I don't think.

How does this lessen our chances of a draw? In this unit there was 140 applicants for 175 tags.. available.    I guess I dont see what you mean.

It is the 6 easiest unit to draw a tag in according to stats, why would it be harder to draw as a group rather than seperate.

Also, this is the first party application i have every applied on besides just applying with my father.

I guess I dont get what your saying.

We use to put in for party apps.  We would basically guarantee ourselves we would not be drawing a tag for 4 to 5 years.  First year was even longer.  Six or 7 years (one of my first tags).  So we said heck with it and started putting in separate.

Since, I have drawn three mule deer buck tags.  My dad has drawn two.  My sister one, my buddy one.  My neighbors (all separate) have drawn six tags among four people.  Before that, they went many years without tags.  Basically the 5 to 7 year average for mule deer.

That's just the way it has been.  At least SOMEONE has gotten a tag in no longer 2 year increments.  Why?  I strongly feel it is because we increase our odds of luck.  On a party app, one name and ONLY one name is drawn.  That person's luck decides everyone's luck.  With separate apps, all the names go in and they ALL get drawn.  The fate is then upon what they are drawn for.  So we have four chances in my hunting party that someone will get a tag.  We seem to beat the odds of 3 to 17% of drawing a tag more often than we did when putting in on a party app.

Either we have been extremely lucky, or we have found a way to increase our odds that at least someone will be hunting horns.  Other hunters simply don't hunt (just tag along) or hunt for does.  I usually take my bow and hunt a buck with it.

This technique really doesn't matter for units with good draw odds.  I think party apps would work just fine.  But tougher draw rates, I like the chances of putting in four times versus a party application where when one name is drawn, it is over.

I'm not a statitician so I can't give you number proof and maybe none exists.  Just given you real life proof of how we have hunted way more for a buck doing this.  Either we are very lucky or it is working.  I'll take the luck!

Sure, that makes sense. Technically, the way you hunt in the lower draw mule deer units that would make sense to a point. In essence if it doesn't matter who has a tag, your going hunting regardless, thats like putting Tim Sandstroms name in the lottery 6 times for horns, rather than picking one name of say 6 to be drawn on the party App. I think you are damn lucky to have 3 dags as quick as you have got them tho! .  Coincidence you have drawn, no not really, because of all the applicants with you/dad/dani/tess, etc. are all sepeate someone will have better chance to get a tag. Makes sense. Man you could B.S. all day on this and that talking about odds this way...

Yeah its a high success rate and if we all draw we do and get to blaze away!

Don't they pick each name on the application therefore having multiple chances at a tag, if one of you doesn't get drawn the other guys on the application still have a chance for the whole party?
