Marinas in Bismarck?

With the channel of the river being dug down, I've heard the water is 85' deep in places, how will this affect the backwater areas in Bis/Man? Im guessing all the marinas will be high and dry once the water flow returns to normal. How much will a southport house be worth with no water in the back yard? Im guessing a little less than before!

I have heard nothing to support a river hole of 85 ft.  Any Bismarck river rat can tell you they can find 30+ ft holes before the flooding, so add another 10 ft due to the flooding and you should be able to find 40 ft holes.  But 85 ft?  Sounds like a load of crap to me.

Hell, the only boat I've even seen on the Missouri the past week has been the USGS out taking streamflow measurements.  And I know their max depth in the water treatment plant stretch of the river has been around 27 ft.

I did hear the same thing this morning on the radio but thought it has to be a misprint.
Allen,
I will agree (nicely) that it would be extremly tough to find a hole right now over 40'.

Those #'s were stated during the news conference this morning.  They did say they were unofficial #'s just what was being shown on some depth finders.  Who was reporting the #'s - I have no idea.

The 2 areas they mentioned were hoge island possibly around 65 feet and by fox island around 85 feet.

They say the fast flows of the river have dug the channel much deeper and pushed away the sand

We were out before the restrictions were put on with the heavy fines for making wake and we found a 42 foot, but that was a hole that has always been deep (30 feet plus). That was just south of hesket a ways but north of the interstate bridge.

I just find 85 ft hard to beleive. I guess nobody would know right now, and I won't disagree that the channel will be deeper, but 85 ft???? We will have to wait and see!!!

I think that the river scour now might be a little more horizontal in nature than vertical. I'm sure it might be going a little deeper but I think it is swallowing up the banks more now. That and the fact that Oahe is letting out a lot more water too.

Fishing is definitely going to be different.  Could be using leadcore a lot!!

With sandbars gone the holes will be packed with fish.  Other areas will be open water trolling!

I'm thinking the fact that the southport houses (and the rest of Fox Island area) were underwater or nearly underwater 2 out of the last 3 years will affect the property value more than how much water is in the bay in the future.

85 feet deep sounds crazy but who would have believed everything else that is going on right now from Montana to Mississippi just a few short weeks ago?

I was talking with a neighbor tonight who has had his boat on the river as recently as last week. He said for the most part he has seen 20 to 30 feet between memorial bridge/expressway and southport.

He did think it could be possible to have had a hole created near hoge island and fox island but if it were to be as deep as reported it wouldn't be a very big area. Just where the water might churning around a bend.

I still see a horizontal log in the same place down at Graner's so there is still a sandbar  holding that huge log there.  May not be there much longer as the water will come up again.

What's gonna happen to those homes when the water is gone and this deep channel starts exposing itself.   Homes built on sand(bars),  steep shorelines and no water to support them.   Hope what i'm thinking doesn't happen to those homes.
