Since my wife and I basically struck out on Devil's Lake last weekend, we have decided to give Lake Ashtabula a try this Sunday. We have never been there before so we could use some advice.
-I plan on driving my honda onto the ice. Are there any areas that we should avoid due to possibly thin ice?
-We plan on going after perch, walleye and pike. We don't have a vexilar so we will have to find the fish the hard way. When jigging and setting deadsticks, do you guys usually find the fish suspended or near the bottom?
-My plan was to set a few tip ups for pike with smelt, 4 deadsticks with minnows and two jigging poles with lindy darters or salmo chubby darters. Do those set ups usually produce fish at Ashtabula?
-I don't need anyone's hotspot, but has anybody heard of some good luck on any certain part of the lake.

Thanks again for the help!

If you go to the crossing and go south you should be fine driving on.  The toughest part will be finding them without a gps or flasher.  The slimers usually are in the shallow flats but the walleyes and perch are usually around the river channel which can be tricky to fish without electronics.  I will be out there tomorrow too so you can find me if you need some help.  I drive a red Toyota Tacoma and have a grey jason mitchell ice house.  I have only fished Ashtabula twice so far this year but it has been hit and miss.  Even on a bad day I can usually pick up a few eyes and some perch.
