I want to put kicker motor on my sylvan 186 viper but the dealer is advising i dont.  he said the controls and steering linkages and cables would kink and wouldnt work.  just wondering if any of you out there have on on your boat and have you had any problems with it.  it is an 09 with a yamaha 150 on it.  Also if they make a "smart gauge" that you can control rpms with i would maybe go for that as well.  i just want to be able to run cranks at different speeds.  thanks for the input.

Half of all Viper's I see have a kicker.  My buddy has an 07 with a Yamaha 150F and a 9.9 mounted on port side connected to main motor.  Really hard weird to hear.  I would do some more checking.

Just put a panther plate on your transom.

Sounds like the guy is laying te ground work to sell you a new boat. What a crock!!!! Steering use a link between your big and new little motor. Pull control box and cables through and walla your donr, seems like to this guy it's rocket science or something.

Smart gauge isn't going to do you any good on this application however you would want to look at the Trollmaster Pro 2, this will ocntrol your speed like you want.http://www.cabelas.com/outboard-accessories-trollmaster-8482-pro-2-digital-throttle-control-3.shtml

The Trollmaster Pro 3 is nice,http://www.cabelas.com/product/TrollMaster8482-Pro-3-Digital-Throttle-Control/1159884.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dtrollmaster%2B%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DSBC%253BBRprd1159878%253Bcat104752980&Ntt=trollmaster+&WTz_l=SBC%3BBRprd1159878%3Bcat104752980 it will also allow you to steer with the box however you would also need to purchase an electric steering like Panther makes to run it.

Bottom line, find a new dealer cause there is ALOT of smoke being blown around!!!

The problem with the 186 is I think it is the newer version and there is a brace in the back transom that sticks up to high and the cables will have to make 2 bends before they go to the side of the hull.  I originally looked at this boat and I think that even with a panther bracket I'm not sure you can do it.  JMHO

Cant you mount it on the drivers side and have nearly a straight shot to run the cables though. Sounds like you are more familiar to whats going on than me, not trying to be a smart a$$ or anything.

Of course if you were to go with the Trollmaster 3 and the Panther T4 steering, you wouldn't have to pull any cables, just a wire bundle for the Trollmaster. This would definitely be a way around that bracket.
