I know we got a trace last night in South Fargo.  Interested to hear the results of these storms and rain totals.

Langdon.  Dumped 1.30 out of my gauge this morning.  NDAWN says 1.20 but that was through midnight.  On Saturday night/Sunday morning, we got about .50 in town.  Nothing 5 miles West and about an inch to the east of town.

Overall, a reasonably nice gentle rain.  No hail.  Not a lot of wind.  Still some canola to go in the ground around here.  Some of the wetter ground won't get seeded.

Which day we talking?  Minot had over an inch on last Friday in about 15 to 20 minutes.  I don't know what we got yesterday combined.  I imagine about the same.  I read the storm reports for many areas yesterday.  It was quite impressive.

NDAWN?  I am lost?

Yeah, good idea, will go check that out.

Yeah NDAWN not much help with this type of rain system.  Says total of .66.  I'm sure true at station but these types will dump .30 at one place and 300 yards to the west over an inch.  All I know is a lot of rain in many places.

Time for me to go get a raingauge.  Or should I just use bucket and tape measure?

.5 inch just south of Bismarck.

Of course the next weather maker should be here by the weekend. Sounds like it could be wet. Hopefully the winds will take a break.

Any measuring system only measures actual precip in one place.  If you click on the different NDAWN stations you get a pretty good picture of rainfall distribution.  NOAA doesn't have a much better system.  Actually, I think they read right from some of the NDAWN stations.  I've looked at doppler estimates before too and they are really a wild guess.

All us natives who grew up with these types of weather systems understand that variability with Summer storms.  There's another variability when you get to the coffee shop because too many guys want to be the "winner" who always has more rain than anybody else or a thermometer that was hotter or colder than anybody else.  All of us know those guys and we don't pay attention to what they say.  BTW, they are always the guys who you have to subtract several inches from every fish they say they caught or discount the size of the buck they saw standing in the brush.  They got 80 bushel wheat when everybody  else got 60.  You know how it goes.

Looks like the Grafton area and into Minnesota got a lot of rain yesterday and many of those areas got a lot over the weekend.  I'm just glad we missed the worst of it.

Isn't that the truth.

to add to your post:

It's funny how the same people always see a huge "6x6".. Whenever some joe blow tells me about the huge "6x6" I pretty much stop listening.
They have so many stories about the 170-180 inch bucks they see every week. But  they never seem to shoot any big deer.
funny how that works.

Yeah I wasn't implying anything, just saying the stations can't get everything.  Yes, perhaps a good basis for judgment for snow and more sit and soak type systems but these cell type storm systems.  A lot can go un-reported.  I mean, on Friday, just two miles (or less) to the north we got over 3 inches of hail on the ground and where live not even a pea hit the ground.  That's all I'm saying and I know many understand that.  Some do not though and I guess maybe that was why I said what I said?  Don't know.

And yes, NOAA treats them like any Cocorahs reporting entity.  A very reliable one at that.
