Fishing Report Creditability

It’s that time of the year again! Fishing reports start flowing and we all start wondering what reports are valid. I recommend we keep it real simple. If you are going to post a dishonest report, don’t report at all. I’m sure most members are not asking for specific location or coordinates, but just a general area.
I have picked up the phone or PM’d members and never expect the specifics, just an idea. When you read a report from me, know that I will give the general area (Doc’s), depth (11 to 13 feet), and presentation (Jig). No need to jeopardize my integrity or creditability over a few fish. For those of you confused, it’s called ethics.
I also want to thanks those of you who have given me an idea on where the action is taking place. Remember to contact me if heading out and I will always help the best I can.

ME 4-5 and 6

I think in the past I have left some good reports; sometimes too good because I get beat up by my friends that I have given out to much information BUT it KILLS me to see bogus reports that I know aren't true!!! I dont think that was ever the intent of FBO.

Walynut,

I saw you posted something on the devil's lake about untrue reports shortly after I posted my report.  I hope you're not suggesting that I was posting a false report.  I would've loved to say that I brought home 5 nice eyes.  Unfortunately, I had a crappy day on the lake.

This site used to contain a lot more reports than it does now.  I think people use it as a resource to look at, but don't add a report after they go fishing.  I try to report every time I fish; good or bad.

Maybe this site should require a username/password to look at the fishing reports?

Honestly I have cut down on the reporting.  I too have been "beat up" on here for posting good fishing.  Per this post, I will try it again.  Good luck to all this weekend and we'll see how she goes.

You mean a dishonest report like this?
"Ben hammern eyes on darevevils evry cast catchn 24 incherz in my secret spot, lost a 16 pound eye had my buddie seen it too ben out evrey day wioth the same luck"

or

"got me some cats last night got 4 that went over 30 pounds, one big one was 47 inches looked like it smallowed a watermelun, hammern em on frogs, had one break my line 80 pound spiderwire"

My New Years Resolution is to take more pics of all the fish I catch, I'm bad at that, I never had a digital camera before my wife got a new one and I inherited her old one.

As far as I'm concerned, the report pages can be taken off the site completely. I don't base my decisions whether to go fishing or hunting on what somebody else says anyway. Heck, fish can be biting hot and heavy one minute and completely disappear the next. I say get out and fish and have fun, whether you catch anything or not, the enjoyment of fishing and hunting is just doing it IMO.

A report at it's very best is the result of an anglers personal experience on that day. A small piece of a trend or a pattern, not a guarantee all things are carved in stone the person that fallows will repeat the same results either way.

If the reader can glean enough info required to fallow that trend or pattern all the better, that is about all a report can truly offer.

For the most part in a report I find 50% believe I am a liar, the other 50% believe I'm holding back info....so....I'm dammed if ya do...dammed if ya don't.

Go figure? ;)

I ponded walleyes an there last year. They were all from 2-6lbs!!
G&F Website lists:
Gaebe Pond - 1.5 miles west of New Salem (trout, bluegill, perch - no ramp, fishing pier).

Gaebe Pond also is designated for kids and senior citizen fishing only.

You can't aim a duck to death.

I am far from the "report police".  I am simply stating the report page can be muddy at times.  With that said, it benefits no one.  It about giving general information as no one wants a spot given to thousands of people.  I frankly kept it rather vague to prevent that.

I think Stevepike gave the perfect example.  If you want to act like a child, check out mickeymouse.com.
