Devils Lake (Overview) - Saturday, May 8, 2010

Report Details
Holy tough outing.  Well, now that I sold my boat, I'm tagging along.  My buddy Jeff and I got up to DL late Friday.  He wanted to get his boat in the water for the 1st time.  C O L D was the term and S L O W was the action.  We fished 6 mile picking up one pike.  On the way back, his trolling motor came loose and hit the water tearing off the entire bracket.  Oh my.

Saturday, May 8th we headed into DL to get him a new trolling motor (he had insurance).  He picked up the new ipilot.  Back out to the water.  Hit up Pelican and could not find water warmer than 46.  We picked up a few more pick.  We finally found 51 degree water and got NOTHING.

My buddies boat is up and running with a new trolling motor, bu the fishing was not good.  We new the cold front days before would impact the fish.  I expect the next few weeks and things should pick up to that fun activity of cranking for eyes in 2 to 5 FOW.

Stringerfull,
It is better to run into boat issue while the fish are not biting. Had the same experience during a early season fishing eyes  and sauger on the St. Croix River.

From the report, I assume the cold front killed the shallow bite. Let hope the coming up week warm and trigger a feeding frenzy. Coming up for some shallow action this coming up weekend. Hope to hit some action with cranks and jigs.

If nothing else, maybe the whitebass will entertain me if the eyes and pike dont play along. How are the white bass these day, hope they are still sticking to the main bay. It would ruin the shallow bite (eyes) if they moved out of the deeper bay into the shallow.

LOL and people wonder why I dont let you in MY boat.....Shlep-rock!!!!!

Kinda figured it would be slow thats why I stayed home; hit an auction Saturday got an awesome deal on a clock and then played three rounds of golf on Sunday, damn my sides hurt.

I will be up this coming weekend, saw on the news of a 71degree high on Saturday this morning; belive it when I see it though, less rain expected this week so that will help also.

I will send you pictures of the eye's  I catch saturday so make sure to charge your phone on Friday, hate to see the battery run out from so many pics before I get off the lake!!!!! LOL

Good Luck and Good Fishin'
