Crossbows or Handguns during bow season?

This is strictly hypothetical. Which would you rather see allowed during the regular bow season. The use of crossbows, with all the current restrictions on them, except everyone is allowed to use one, OR the use of handguns with the current minimum barrel length and cartridge size restrictions, plus no magnifying sights, barrel length limited to 7 inches and no handguns designed to shoot a high powered rifle cartridge allowed. One caveat would be that people would only be allowed to fill their regular rifle  tag using these methods, no OTC tags like bow hunters get. You would be limited by the type of deer and geographical unit unlike regular bow hunters.

I'd go for the handguns . . . sounds like more fun.

Neither, you have plenty of time during the regular gun season to use these weapons.  Bow season is for bows only.

I agree!  The seasons are just fine the way they are.

However, we can discuss this at the FBO get together on Dec. 3rd over a cold glass of liquid refreshment.

Neither.  Crossbows ONLY if they were equipped with some kind of mechanical sight like a standard bowsite.  Outlaw Aimpoints and elecronic sight nonsense  like that.
No scopes, either.
Proper, less precise  would go far to level the playing field between bows and crossbows.

IF you were to frame it as a "special herd reduction handgun season" in SW ND it might fly.

Really, what's the difference between a 1911 and a bow for all practical purposes?

If I were Ruler of the World, "Bow" season would be changed to "Close Range" season.  Why?  Because I too, would like to enjoy the solitude, etc; without looking like a neon porn shop sign.  And I have some doubt I could hit a semi (hee hee) truck within sensible bow range.

Handguns.

Given the circumstances given by the OP, a handgun would have less effective range in most peoples hands rather than a crossbow.

dont want either but if i had to pic i would say cross bow. i think most the guys i know would just be wounding alot of deer with the handguns. empting a gun on a good buck . but i see why it would be fun to try using the same guidlines as bowhunting. only taking close range good shots and not hoping to pop and drop
