I'm planning on taking a trip up the the Boudry Waters next summer with some friends. I have been there four times now. Three times to BWCA and once to Quetico. I would like to stick with BWCA again we've gone through Canadian Border Outfitters, and Wilderness Outfitters in the past. Does anybody have any other suggestions for a good outfitter. Would also love to here any of your experiences up there.

I joined the military not only to fight for my country but to fight for those that can't fight for themselves. Thats why I'm here.

Dude save the money rent the canoes from the base, and knock it out.  If you have been there that many times you know the ways of the BWCA if you need any gear I got some stuff to lend you.  But I if I have to say one I would say seagull outfitters.  I think I have rented canoes and stayed at CBO's bunk house before too.

I agree with Sota, Save the cash and plan out the trip well and you should have no problem.  I have been up there 9 or 10 times since I was 9yrs old.  I absolutely love it up there.  We usually go in at entry point 16 and do a base camp type trip(set up camp and do day trips from there).  I'm not a fan of waking up, breaking camp, paddling your a$$ off to get to the next lake/campsite just to set it all back up and tear it down in the morning.
Some of the best smallie fishing I have ever done was on the boulder river between Agnes and Lac La Croix.
Generally we sleep in hammocks with bug netting and a tarp for a rain fly.  Very light and compact.
PM me if you want any pointers about gear and what not.

ive gone the last 4yrs out of sawbill canoe outfitters. its just a place that rents canoes and sells supplies. very reasonably priced. usually go up for a week and eat fish everyday just so we can keep fishing. we do the same as gillgetter and have a base camp and take day trips in and out. id like to go in but i go with my dad and his buddies (they claim there to old for that) we set up a big camp tents, canopy, kitchen. if you have a base camp you can park your car right at your camp site. tofte, MN is only 25mi away so if you run out of anything(usually smokes for me) its just a quick trip to town and back also. hope that helps ya a little.

I have been lucky enough to go on 2 moose hunts in the bwca.  This year I get to go again.  We packed out 2 very good bulls in 07 and 08 (Check out my avatar).  This year another buddy of mine drew a tag, so hopefully I'll be packin out number 3 in October.  We all have our own gear and canoes so I haven't used an outfitter but this year the crew I'm going with doesn't have much for gear.  They are using Seagull outfitters for canoes and some other stuff.  I have heard good things about Seagull outfitters.  We will stay in their bunkhouse the night before we head in for our hunt and possibly when we get out if we need to.  Can't wait!!

FYI,

If you want to save a days worth of canoeing its worth a few extra $'s to get a "head start" boat ride to your 1st portage or entry point, pull your map out and check out Moose lake just north of ely, have them drop you off at the splash lake portage, head to ensign lake (short hop-skip and jump) and setup a base camp, now your on a premier walleye/pike lake not to mention surrounding lakes that get very little pressure.

OR

Another cool trip is lake saganga at the end of the gunflint trail, the sag store/outfitter burnt down so you'll need to enter at Sea gull outfitters on Sea gull lake just down the road from Sag,headstart ride to American point (furthest motorized entry point),from here you can access quetico park ontario via remote canadian entry or follow the border route thru two short portages heading east to Ottertract lake, setup a base camp here, another great walleye and surpreme smallie lake with huge pike and another low pressure fishing lake, folks usually just pass thru this lake w/o a clue how good the fishing is.

Agree with snow, however the seagull area has changed dramatically.  Keep that in mind I was told two years ago its near impossible to find the portage from Paulson to Seagul because of the fire.  Alphine was torched so it may take a little effort to get away from the fire but I think it would be cool to see for a couple days.
