Photo Description:
My 72 year old Uncle shot his first deer with his crossbow today. He shoots a crossbow because his shoulders have no cartilage in them due to a long life of hard work, but it hasn't slowed him down yet. I put him in my ground blind and today was his 7th day sitting on stand. Well today it finally came together. He had several does come by over these past 7 days, but wanted to take a buck as we've been discussing the deer herd in my area with special emphasis on doe preservation. I have several trail cam pics of this deer and named him "Up-Down" for obvious reasons. This buck came from the west at about 4:30 pm and gave my uncle a broadside shot at 15 yards when my Uncle center punched'em. Up-Down high kicked and bolted for the trees. When I arrived with the truck to pick up my Uncle, all he did was show me his quiver. It just so happened to be short one bolt. I asked if he got one and he said "Yes, and it's a buck!" I was estatic. We have a coyote problem around here, so when my Uncle told me he hit one, the tracking job began immediately. I've seen enough yote eaten deer this year and I didn't want this special deer to end up the same way. There was good sign right where the deer was standing which blossomed into an easy blood trail to follow. 60 yards later, my Uncle put his hands on his first crossbow buck. He'd made a perfect shot! To say the least I'm very happy in the face!!!
