And for NRA members, this is discount weekend at Cabelas. The coupons are in the Feb. issue of American Rifleman. The 10 percent off coupon can easily pay for the year's dues.

Not to sound grumpy, but I wish I knew a way to stop their catalogues, at least the big huge one that must cost them (US) lots of money to produce and send out.
I suspect that most of us buy online anyway. even an old fossil like me uses the internet so that fake leathew catalogue irritates me all to heck!  Not that I'm particularly 'green' but it seems like a waste of resources and money to me.
I always liked Cabelas, but more and more I  look elsewhere for my toys, preferring to keep my business local is possible..

You are grumpy!
I always order online, but I usually do all my looking in the catalog and then go online to order. I'd rather sit for an hour flipping through a catalog than sit online clicking from page to page.
By the way, what you may call a waste of resources is a job to lots of people. This whole "paperless" craze the world seems to be in is taking away lots and lots of jobs - from loggers to truckers to paper mills to printing houses. Plus, paper is a renewable resource.

Ive thought the same thing Bobcat, would be nice if they would credit my account with half of what it would cost them to mail me the catalogs, I would order more often for sure.

poo..on you...it is one of the greatest mail days of the year....My mailman had to bring it upto the house I wanted to give him a hug....

I was kind of thinking the same thing however I realized as I was paging through the bible how much I really enjoy it...even though 90% of everthing I order is online...there's just somthing about holding that book in your hands and thumbing through it...I wouldn't change it for the world....I would rather see a food stamp program cut before they take away my hard covered bible...

Just in time for tax returns!!!

Why are people still giving the govt intrest free loans for a year and all happy when govt sends them something back
When you file your taxes you want too owe them money but not over a 1000 dollars as then they'll make you file quarterly, use there money intrest free for a year, it's not that hard to figure out how much to have with held each pay check, but then you have to have the disaplin not too spend it all so you have some left too pay your tax bill when you file  just my opion

I do like the catalogs(Bass Pro, Cabelas) for when sitting on the crapper. Find what I want to buy then order from Tacklewarehouse. Free shipping once you reach $50 worth of tackle plus their prices are also better. BPS and Cabelas shipping rates are rediculous. The last time I ordered from BPS they charged me $10 for a three pound packege. Never agian.

I really don't think this thread needs to head this direction.  There are plenty of other arguement threads going on.  "Just my opinion"

If you watch the cabelas website or look through the small catalogs they send out, usually every month they will offer free shipping on orders over like 50 dollars too.  Shipping costs have gotten to be pretty high for these companies to swallow, but I know what you mean.

I would agree that Cabela's goes a little overboard in their marketing, as I get fliers and/or catalogs from them almost weekly it seems.  I think I got 2 or 3 fall "master" catalogs from them that were pretty much all identical...That is their perogative and my choice to buy from them I guess but yeah it seems like they could save some money.

On the shipping end, even though the shipping is expensive I doubt they are making any money off of it.  Ever send anything via UPS lately?  I sent a package about the size of a shoebox a couple weeks ago that weighed less than 5 pounds to someone a state away and it was nearly $20 - and I provided the box.

No kidding send a few less catalogs and cut your prices instead.  I get no less than 3 cabelas catalogs a week.

One Big Ass Mistake America !

Re: the shipping:
I work at a company that ships alot of packages via one of the major carriers, so we get a decent discount....even with that discount, a 3 lb. package sent to a residence will most likely cost us 8 to 10 dollars, sent the cheapest way.  it costs the sender alot less to send the package to a business, school, etc.  Not sure if they would pass those savings on to you or not.  not trying to necessarily defend cabelas either, but shipping in general is not nearly as cheap as it used to be not too many years ago.

to clarify what i was saying above, it costs alot less for the sender to send to a business, school, etc, what they call "commercial" as opposed to "residential".  especially "remote residential".  again, whether they pass that savings on to you is up to the sender.
