As many of you may know, my beloved 1999 alumacraft 165 CS met its maker on the river this fall.  After a long and hard search we have finally got River Rat V2.  I would say it is a considerable upgrade.

2004 lund 1775 Pro V SE with a 115 mercury four stroke.  This boat has an aluminum prop, which I obviously need to replace.  My research indicates 13 1/4 inch by 17 inch should do the job, but I would really like to know if anybody has a similar motor/boat setup and can give us some tips.

I like this boat so much I am considering getting rid of my FX18DV......but breaking up is hard to do.

That sounds like the right prop. A 19 is too large for that motor. My bud has the same 115 merc motor and after going down in pitch to a 17 from a 19 he has gained top end, hole shot and his rpm's are more in the ideal operating range.

I have a 75 4stroke with a 17 and it also works well with my motor. Mine is aluminum but you will get way better performance out of the stainless since there is less flex. I have run the 15 on mine and I over-rev and can't reach the desired speed with my 17 if that helps at all.

This is my BOOMSTICK!!!

You're ringing the bell there.  I'd be on the horn to every dealership I could think of to see if someone has such a thing in stock that's maybe been there too long.  I'd also consider calling Cabela's and Bass Pro stores directly to see if maybe you can nab one from a bargain cave.

FWIW when i was prop shopping I found that Doug's Anchor Marine in Watertown SD, and Grabingers in Jamestown both had a pretty good selection of used props and at the time were willing to let me try a used prop I thought might work while holding my CC# on file.  There may be other dealerships out there willing to do the same but those are the two I have experience with.

go to iboats.com and checkout their new prop selection, I bought two there over the years and their prices were excellent, as was the prop.

I have the same motor on a 17.5' Lund Fisherman with a 16 pitch Mercury stainless prop...works very well, tops out around 5600-5700 rpm, and is perfect for trolling cranks or dragging jigs/rigs upstream on the river. I found it was easier to find a low price on a 16 that's been lying around a shop a while rather than the more popular 17, and the 4 stroke hole shot is benefitted by the 16.

I should say that the prop's I purchased were aluminum, Cabela's was $159 retail, while the iboat prop was $98 at my doorstep!

this should help just make an account and everything and it will ask you a bunch of questions to calculate the weight of the boat going through the water

I found a 13 1/4 X 17 inch stiletto advantage new in box on ebay for $149 shipped.  So that is what I went with.

I appreciate the help, I figured you would chime in and help me out.

Now I need a GPS and a new trolling motor...

anybody want a virtually new 55# 12 volt powerdrive?

Corey you should have went to WC and talked with propman....  He may have another option , not all 13 1/4 x 17 stainless props will perform the same.....  You know that; but I understand your old man my not care.

YES, I am that foolish!

I did plenty of research, and no he doesn't care.  The prop will be half dinged up and bent and so will the shaft,  after 3-4 uses!

I am certainly jeolous of this boat.  It was professionally "winterized" and "summarized" every year, single owner, new snap on carpet, basically babied for 7 years and now my old man is going to trash it!  It's a shame!

Permo,

Not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but I had fair on plane performance with the stock aluminum 19 pitch prop for a Yammie 115 strapped to a Lund 17.5 Fisherman.  She was a bit of a pig with hole shot though and a little on the low-end of the RPM range when loaded to the hilt.

So I went out and picked up a 17 P stainless prop by Powertech, their RED line of props.  The cupping of the stainless prop really helped with the low-end planing,  handling, and holeshot but it came at the expense of top end speed and rpms.

In general I would say you are going the right way in prop selection, but until you strap it on and give'r the onion it's a big crap shoot because not all props are created equal.

And yeah, did hear about the demise of your Alumacraft.  All I can say to that is "shiite happens and poop occurs".
